My practice investigates gender identity and experiences of difference. My work explores the context of identification of one’s true self through painting, print, digital drawing, and photomontage.
Using motifs such as flowers, and portraiture (in its widest definition), I examine the experience of identifying as trans and its effect on relationships with family and friends. With my work, I hope to highlight this reluctance to speak about something so fundamental – one’s gender orientation, something that lies at the heart of who we are. For this reason, I have tried to make images that intrigue and provoke discussion around this subject and that both shine a light upon and celebrate the transgender community.
